When shopping for doors for your new home or home renovation, you may not know you have 2 options to choose from:
- Pre-hung door kits
- Purchasing doors, frames, and related ironmongery separately.

What is a Pre-hung Door?
A pre-hung door kit is a door that is already attached by hinges and a lock to a three-sided doorframe. It is sold as a mostly complete package, made to reduce time and fuss onsite.
A pre-hung door is a self-contained unit with a frame that fits into a prepared doorway.
Upon delivery, pre-hung doors are tightly stacked with polyester tension packing straps and plastic spacers to prevent them from shifting or twisting during shipment. They will arrive at your site on a pallet, ready for your quick and no fuss installation.

Faster onsite installation
All time-consuming work involved in fitting doors will be completed in our factory, this means on-site work is greatly reduced.
Precision finish
It is fair to say even the best of carpenters can never be quite as accurate on site as our CNC router is here in our factory. Hinges and locks are routed with perfect accuracy every time.
Less mess onsite
Most of the dirty work is completed in our factory meaning less mess and dust onsite. Fitting doors separately onsite generally means a large clean-up effort after work is complete.
DIY friendly
As the technical carpentry is completed in our factory – a couple of keen DIY enthusiasts would be able to install these door kits with relative ease.
Cost-effective
Because of the reduced time required to install pre-hung doors, installation time is reduced onsite thus reducing the cost.
Where Pre-Hung Doors work:
New builds
The speed of installation onsite coupled with new consistent door openings on a new build, make pre-hung door kits a great option.
DIY renovations
As mentioned earlier, pre-hung door kits are a good option for DIY projects, the hinges and locks are already routed and installed saving time while saving the need to purchase or hire expensive carpentry tools.
Where Pre-Hung Doors don’t work:
- In a home renovation where the existing door frame and architrave is staying in place, selecting a door separately is the right option, as removing the frame and architrave are required for a pre-hung door kit.
- Pre-hung door kits can be heavy and awkward to move around. They require 2 people to fit in place. 1-person fitting pre-hung door kits would not be recommended.
- By their nature, refurbishment projects to older homes can often require adjustments to doors and frames as door openings can often be off square and need additional trimming onsite. For this reason, we would advise selecting doors and frames separately.
